Last Week of Summer

I wasn't sure how I felt about school starting after Labor Day.  Initially I thought it sounded great but as August hit I was getting more and more anxious for the kids to get back in school.  That being said I tried to enjoy it and realize that I would soon be missing summer and wishing they were out all over again.  We went to the Farmington Pool for the first time this summer.  It was a hit!  I loved that they could all do their own thing.  Leila is so independent with her puddle jumpers on.  She LOVED the slide and didn't hesitate one second to go down it and fly out the other side into the water.  It was hilarious.  Charlie and Kenya were completely in heaven with the diving boards.  This is the first year Kenya could do them since she's had floaties up until this year.  She is swimming really well and was already attempting flips off the diving board and jumping off the high dive.  We had such a great time we headed back a couple days after that for some more fun.

I sent Mark a text on a Friday asking him to plan a date for us that weekend.  He called me later saying he got tickets to Wicked!  Said he'd been working on it for a while, I had been dropping hints for months but didn't think he'd taken them, so I was thrilled when I realized he had!  It was our first time seeing it.  I loved it.

Mark came with us on our last hurrah to Cherry Hill.

Some of our harvest that Kenya helped me with. Tomatoes and potatoes.  I am always amazed when we grow something, put a potato in the ground, a few months later dig up a whole bunch of potatoes.  I  love it.  It is amazing how things grow.

August iphone Pics

Caught this one in my heels, love the little pose here.

6 kids for a couple days, 6 suckers at the bank and a movie on in the car kept them happy.  For 2 minutes. :)

Leila says all day "Ook mom" or "atch mom"

Love this Russian doll I got in Russia, look how teeny it gets!  Brought the girls back their own.  They love them.  I think the pieces are every where right now though. :(

Leila at the park about to wack me.

 Another "ook mom!"
One of our last Cherry Hill days.

Charlie started football, Kenya learned some cheers for him.

 They beg for this.

So proud of getting herself dressed.  Skirt as a shirt, shirt as a skirt.

Calls the princesses "Pissa" and the princes "daddies".  She wanted her daddies to watch her eat.

Playing

As a mom one of the things I love is when my kids play well together, or alone. :)  The last few weeks of summer have been hot which means playing outside has turned into playing inside.  I love when they play with their toys though, of course with that comes a huge mess followed by a battle to clean up a lot of times but at least their toys are getting used.

This is my Opa playing memory with my kids.  Whenever we stayed at my grandparents we played their German memory game all.the.time.  Opa often played with us.  When I was in Germany I got my own German memory game for my kids.  I love that Opa still will play and that he takes the exact same position on the floor that he did with us as kids.  My grandparents were down from Washington for a week so Oma could do some more geneology.  We had them over for dinner.

Kenya and Leila were playing in the playroom so quietly and for such a long time one day.  I snuck up to take some pictures of them.  Of course it is a disaster but that just means they've been busy playing, maybe one day I'll catch them before the playroom gets to this point.

Charlie really started getting into his Legos again, which is great.  This is a boat he made that he wanted to take in the bath.

Leila loves books.  Seek and Find Elmo was a big hit for a few weeks.  I love when she just gets a book out and starts "reading" it to herself.

Summer Time At Snowbird

I enjoy snowboarding, I really do.  It's one of the few of the snow's redeeming qualities.  I like doing it at snowbird (because it's free for me thanks to my mom), but I enjoy Snowbird so much more in the summer, it is my favorite.  Cooler weather, beautiful hikes, fun activities, swimming. I love it.  Unfortunately it always gets thrown together at the last minute and my little family doesn't end up getting to stay too long so next year we are going to plan it and stay the whole week.  It is fabulous up there.

This year I took my kids up for a couple days and a night without Mark.  We hadn't been back from our big trip and he couldn't miss any more work.  We missed him but still had a good time.

We hiked to Cecret (secret) Lake in Alta, a first for us.  It was a great kids hike.  My kids were racing up the mountain and the first ones there.  Leila did pretty good keeping up with us too when she wasn't being held, swung, or carried on my shoulders.

 They were "cold" little cuties.

The activities...

 Momma moose and her baby.

She was pretty nervous on this ropes course but she conquered a couple of the walk ways.
